Four people have been arrested in central Cape Town for possession of drugs and a large amount of drugs and cash seized, Western Cape police said on Saturday.

“The fight against the proliferation of drugs in the Western Cape was given a boost after the arrest of four suspects [on Friday] by police attached to Cape Town Central SA Police Service,” Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said.

The suspects, aged between 29 and 35, would appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

They were arrested during an operation conducted at Langholm flats in Kloof Street. Police searched the premises and found R55,250.70 in cash.

Upon further investigation two black bags were discovered containing high quality dagga (cannabis) with an estimated street value of R250,000, 20 ecstasy tablets worth about R6400, and tik (crystal meth) packets and three containers of “liquid acid” with a street value of about R180,000. Laptops and cellphones were also confiscated, Rwexana said.
