Ashley Williams aged 41, has been convicted by the Khayelitsha Priority Court on Tuesday 23 April 2019, for illegal possession of a prohibited AK 47 assault rifle.

Williams was arrested on 19 September 2017, by members from Mfuleni SAPS who swiftly acted on a tip off that he was in possession of an unlicensed firearm (AK47). The search to the premises at Avontuur Street in Delft resulted in the recovery of an AK47 rifle that was found concealed in the Wendy house.

The Hawks’ National Firearms Task Team was assigned to conduct further investigation and consequently Williams was found guilty of contravention of Section 4 of the Firearms Control Act, Act 60 of 2000.

The Khayelitsha Priority Court has sentenced Williams to eight years imprisonment of which three years were suspended for five years with conditions.

He will serve an effective five years direct imprisonment.
