A suspect was arrested after he and two accomplices allegedly robbed a man of his cell phone and cash in Sithandathu Avenue, Nyanga. Immediately after the robbery the victim saw the suspects at a meat stall and alerted the police, who arrested a suspect who was waiting next to the vehicle they were driving when the armed robbery was perpetrated.

In another incident two other suspects aged 28 and 31 were arrested in Crossroads after police received information on a BMW that was possibly stolen, being driven by the suspects in Crossroads. Police found out that the vehicle was reportedly hijacked in Philippi East earlier this month. The two suspects are both being detained for the possession of a hijacked vehicle.

Two suspects were arrested yesterday, 9 April 2018, in a case of murder and the possession of a hijacked vehicle. A 22 year old was arrested in Heinz Park after police spotted a Silver Astra motor vehicle parked in Roos Street. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen. A 28 year was also arrested for murder after he stabbed another young man over an argument in Crossroads.

The suspects are expected to appear in Athlone Magistrate’s Court this week on charges of murder, possession of a hijacked vehicle and attempted murder.

Police in the area will continue with crime prevention operations to ensure the safety of the communities in the Nyanga Cluster.
