Five arrested for Cape Town house robbery

Police in Mfuleni, Cape Town, rearrested five men as they were released on bail in an unrelated case on Friday, Western Cape police said.

On June 22, a man was held at gunpoint as he was entering his house in Nuwebegin in Mfuleni, Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said on Saturday.

The five robbers tied up his his family and took him around the house at gunpoint while taking the family’s belongings in the house. The suspects also took the man’s car car as they fled.

The five alleged robbers, aged between 27 and 40, were arrested two days later on the N2 near Macassar for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and possession of illegal firearms.

The Mfuleni SA Police Service investigating officer was waiting for them at court on Friday where they were released on bail. He rearrested them for the Mfuleni case of house robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.

They would appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Rwexana said.
