Members from the Western Cape Flying Squad and Cape Town K9 Unit received information from the Provincial Command Centre of a hi-jacked vehicle and conducted patrols in Khayelitsha yesterday, 19 May 2016.
At approximately 10:45, they spotted the vehicle, a black BMW that was hi-jacked in Milnerton earlier this month, in Harare, Khayelitsha.
As they cautiously approached the vehicle it stopped, the doors flung open and five armed men jumped out, firing at the police members. The members returned fire and the suspects fled in different directions.
Swift action by the police resulted in the arrest of all five suspects, of which one was wounded.
Three firearms were recovered. After further investigation by the members two more firearms were recovered in a shopping bag on the roof of a shack in close proximity of the scene.
