Firearms seized and a hijacked vehicle recovered in Brackenfell

On 17 February 2017 at approximately 07:30, members of Cape Town K9 were patrolling in Old Paarl Road, Brackenfell when they were stopped by a member of the public who informed them of a suspicious looking vehicle parked in Old Paarl Road near a bank.

The members called another police vehicle of the Cape Town K9 unit for assistance. They spotted the suspicious vehicle parked where the complainant had mentioned. There were four unknown men in the Silver Toyota Tazz. When the suspects got out of the vehicle, SAPS members saw a firearm on the floor of the front passenger and another also on the passenger side at the back of vehicle. Both firearms’ serial numbers were filed off.

The police officials tested the Toyota Tazz and it was positively identified as having been hijacked earlier this month in Delft. Three of the men in the vehicle are from Philippi and one from Delft.

The suspects were arrested and detained for possession of prohibited firearms and hijacking in Delft. They are due to appear in the Kuilsriver Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 February 2017.
