Community cooperation in the fight against crime in Nyanga continue to yield positive results. Two suspects are expected to appear in court after they were arrested on 9 August 2018, in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

At about 10:00 members received information about a suspect armed with a firearm in his vehicle. Police searched for the vehicle and found the suspect in Zwelitsha. The 51 year old suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and also found with two stoppe of dagga.

Four hours later the second suspect, a 27 year old man was arrested also for the possession of an illegal firearm. The arrest was after police were also tipped off about the firearm in the suspect’s vehicle. They searched for the vehicle and found it in Pula Road, Nyanga. Police found the suspect inside the vehicle with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The two suspects will appear in Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday for the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition and the 51 year old will also face a charge of possession of dagga.

And a 39 year old woman was arrested for possession of 11.5kg dagga in Philippi East. The suspect was a passenger in a taxi when the vehicle was stopped in a roadblock in Stock Road next to the Police Base Camp. She is expected to also make a court appearance on Monday 13 August 2018.
