Steenberg SAPS members ensured that offenders are brought to book when they acted on information from the public and arrested two suspects in separate incidents.

On Friday, 3 August 2018, at about 12:30 Steenberg SAPS members arrested s 39 year old man for the possession of 270 9mm rounds of ammunition in Grindal Credentials, Lavender Hill, Steenberg.

Members were busy patrolling when they received information from the public of ammunition kept at a house. They followed up on the information and got the suspect in the Wendy house and took a spade and dug in the loose sand and discovered a plastic bag containing the ammunition.

In an unrelated incident, on Friday 3 August 2018 at about 19:30 members of the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit arrested a 24 year old male suspect for the possession of a unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Epston Road, Lavender Hill while conducting stop and search operations in the area due to ongoing shooting in the area.

A 357 revolver with seven live rounds of ammunition was found in his possession. The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Both suspects aged 39 and 24 years old are facing charges relating to illegal possession of ammunition and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition respectively.

They are expected to appear in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday 6 August 2018.
