Police in the Nyanga cluster ensured that perpetrators of crime are brought to book and a firearm, ammunition and drugs were confiscated over the weekend.

Friday, 8 January 2021, members attached to Manenberg Crime Prevention Unit conducted stop and search operation in the area. They approached a 25-year-old man and searched him, they found him in possession of mandrax, heroin and tik. The suspect was arrested for possession of drugs, he will appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ court.

In an unrelated incident, a 25-year-old man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on 8 January 2021 by Elsies River police who attended to a shooting incident at 15th Avenue, Elsies River. The members saw a suspicious man and they pursued him and upon searching him, they found an unlicensed firearm with ammunition in his possession. The suspect will appear in the Goodwood magistrates’ court on Monday, 11 January 2021.

Meanwhile Elsies River police confiscated mandrax tablets and dagga weighing about 312 grams at a house in Tiara Way in Leonsdale on Friday. Police investigation continues to trace the suspect in this incident.
