Farmer attacked by 8 suspects near Malmesbury
 KZN farmer attacked, tortured in two-day ordeal

Eight armed and dangerous suspects attacked Mr. Hewett on his farm Boesmansfontein, West Coast District, Swartland Municipality, Malmesbury around 21H00 on Monday, December 26.

Fortunately, Mr. Hewett was able to activate the alarm and call for assistance. Christo Smit from a response unit team was the first to arrive at the farm and assist the distraught farmer.

Upon his arrival, the suspects fled and he pursued them. The suspects fled in the direction of Paarl and at a four-way intersection of Wellington, Christo overtook them and fired several warning shots while ordering the suspects to stop. The suspects managed to overpower Christo and took his gun, then assaulted him and threatened to shoot him with his own gun. By this time, the South African police arrived on the scene and the suspects together with Christo was arrested.

Christo was later released and taken to the Medi-Clinic in Paarl.

The farmer Mr. Hewett remained traumatized and injured from the assault. Reports do not indicate if any items were stolen.

The police are investigating the incident.
