DPCI Hawks are probing the murder of a 31 year old on duty Stellenbosch Crime Prevention Unit Constable who was fatally wounded at a farm near Stellenbosch on Wednesday night 22 May 2019, at about 21:50 whilst pursuing a suspect wanted for house robbery. The member died on the scene due to injuries sustained.

On 22 May 2019, information was received that a house robbery is planned on a farm in Stellenbosch area. At that stage the farm was not known to police. The information was followed up by Cluster Detectives and Stellenbosch SAPS Crime Prevention Unit members and the area was patrolled when the suspects were spotted.

Members from Stellenbosch Crime Prevention Unit pursued a suspect, and during a shooting incident police officer was fatally wounded.

It was then established that the house robbery was indeed committed at 20:00 at a farm near Vlottenburg. The suspects managed to evade an arrest and are being sought.

The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen KE Jula has conveyed his sincere condolences to the family and colleagues for the loss of the member.
