Farm attack, man shot at guest farm, nothing robbed, Stellenbosch

A farm attack took place on Saturday 12 June 2021, at 21:55, at the De Zeven guesthouse at Banhoek, in Stellenbosch, in the Western Cape province of South Africa. This was the second farm attack on a guest farm in the Boland area in two days. The other attack took place on Friday 11 June 2021, at 21:00, at the Amberg guest farm in Paarl.

An unknown number of attackers entered the lounge area on Saturday evening and confronted a couple sitting at a fireplace in an attempt to rob them. The couple were the only guests at the lodge at that time.

A brief scuffle ensued between the couple and the attackers before the attackers shot the man and then fled without taking anything.

The management team pressed a panic button and security arrived. The man was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

It appears that guesthouse owners and farmers need to urgently step up security in that area.

Prospective visitors to guest farms in the area also need to take note of the real danger of being attacked whilst visiting a guest farm at the moment.

Police are investigating but there have been no arrests. There is no other information available at this stage.
