The trade union Hospersa insists that urgent plans must be put in place to protect emergency services staff in the Western Cape.

If this does not materialize, emergency services can come to a halt.

This follows after an ambulance was hijacked on the N2 near Cape Town on the way to the Red Cross Hospital, and in the attempt, an 8-year-old child died.

More than 100 cases of attacks on emergency services staff took place in the Western Cape in 2016.
