A hawk-eyed SAPS member arrested five suspects who were involved in a business robbery and attempted murder on Tuesday 7 June 2022.
A detective sergeant was investigating a docket on hand in Carnarvon Street, Elsies River at around 13:45. He noticed a suspicious vehicle driving with both rear doors open.
Two males came running towards the vehicle and jumped in, as this was happening, silver coins fell all over the street. The police officer approached the vehicle, when the suspects saw him, the driver and two passengers jumped out of the vehicle, and one suspect fired shots.
The sergeant fired back, wounding the suspect in the left leg and proceeded to search the vehicle.
Two other suspects were in the back seat of the vehicle with a firearm between them. Within minutes, a male approached and reported to the police officer that his mobile shop had just been robbed at gunpoint by the suspects.
Five males aged between 21 and 25 were arrested and one gas gun was confiscated.
The suspects will appear in the Goodwood Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
