Concerted efforts to rid communities of illicit drugs and the illegal sale of liquor yielded positive results when the police confiscated drugs, liquor as well as various SASSA cards in Knysna.
On Sunday, 26 September 2021, at about 22:00, members of the Eden Cluster Crime Combating Team operationalized information on illicit activities when they pounced on a house in Concordia, Knysna.
They ensued with a search and found two bankies of Tik and cash in the possession of the homeowner. They continued with the search and discovered and confiscated 33 Mandrax tablets as well as 166 liters of alcohol. In addition to the discovery, members also confiscated an amount of SASSA cards, various bankcards and identity documents.
Subsequently, members arrested the 53-year-old man in connection with the discovery.
The suspect who was detained will appear in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court, once charged. He is facing charges of dealing in drugs, selling of liquor without a licence and contraventions of the National Credit Act.
In an unrelated matter, members attached to the Tsitsikamma K9 Unit and local security personnel were dispatched to a robbery scene at Rheenendal Road, Highway just outside Knysna early on the morning of 27 September 2021, at about 04:10.
It is alleged that three suspects, at least two armed with a firearm and knife respectively, entered the premises. One of the victims later activated the panic button and alerted security personnel. The three suspects fled the scene on foot upon realising that the alarm was activated.
A search of the area led to the discovery of a 9mm handgun, 16 rounds of ammunition and a knife. The police confiscated these items.
Meanwhile, the investigation officer appealed to the public to come forward with any information which could assist the police to bring the perpetrators to book.
