Intensified police visibility in the area of Nyanga, repeatedly results in remarkable successes. Three suspects aged between 24 and 30 appeared in the Athlone Magistrate Court on 22 May 2019, for the possession of a hijacked vehicle.

The trio were arrested on 21 May 2019, while driving in Gwayi Street in Crossroads. Members busy with their patrol duties saw the suspicious vehicle, a White Datsun Go driving in a very high speed and they gave chase. The driver of the vehicle lost control and collided with an electric pole. Three occupants of the jumped out of the vehicle and started running but the police caught all three and arrested them.

In an unrelated incident, a 23 year old man of Khayelitsha is also appearing in the same court after he was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm in Samora Machel. Members were on patrol busy with stop and searches when they stopped and searched two men. During the search one was found to be in possession of firearm, magazine filled with four rounds. The suspect was arrested on Monday and detained.

At about 18:00, while on patrol, police acted on information of a house where drugs is being sold. They searched the house and recovered 55 mandrax tablets and arrested a 36 year old woman in Khbodi Street in Browns Farm.

She is also appearing in Philippi Magistrate Court today for the possession of mandrax.
