An intelligence driven operation was conducted on 7 December 2018, between Mitchells Plain SAPS members and the Provincial Tactical Response Team (TRT) at a premises in Avocado Crescent, Westridge, Mitchells Plain.

This premises was identified as being utilized as a smaller drug storage den by a gang member who resides in Kilimanjaro Street, Tafelsig.

The premises was searched and 2 160 Mandrax tablets as well as Tik with an estimated street value of R80 000 were found hidden inside a cooler box in one of the rooms. Three suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs and will appear in Mitchells Plain Court on Monday 10 December 2018.

In an unrelated incident on 6 December 2018, at about 22:30 Philadelphia SAPS members arrested a 33 year old female for dealing in drugs in Klipheuwel informal settlement.

The premises was searched and narcotics with a street value of R23 500 was confiscated being 550 mandrax tablets, two half mandrax, three quarter mandrax, 293 dagga cigarettes and a packet of tik.

The suspect, a 33 year old female had an infant with her and appeared in Atlantis court on Friday 7 December 2018.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen KE Jula commended the members for their vigilance and action in affecting this arrest. He says that drugs and the abuse thereof are rife in certain sectors of communities and the above actions by police members goes a long way in fighting this scourge.
