Theft of non-ferrous metal and the detrimental damage to our railway infrastructure are regarded high on our priority list and various crime fighting initiatives are applied to curb the scourge. One of these initiatives landed a suspect who is believed to be in this thirties behind bars on the night of 21 April 2020, after he was apprehended with non-ferrous metal, suspected to be centenary and overhead PRASA copper cable with an estimated weight of around 2500 kg.

Members of the Rapid Rail Police Unit in Philippi acted on information which led them to a container in Ncoro Street, Mfuleni where the stolen goods were recovered.

The man is scheduled to make his court appearance in Blue Downs once he has been charged.
