Despite the majority of people who opposed the public participation process, the DA-controlled city council of Cape Town will go ahead with the establishment of a statue of Nelson Mandela.
The EFF and the ANC support the DA in this money wasting plan.
The DA said that a Mandela image would attract tourists to the Cape Town City Hall, but the councilor of the Democratic Independent Party, Anwar Adams, believes that the statue will only attract “pigeons k * k” as he put it at the council meeting.
The majority of Cape Town residents are opposed to the erection of the statue and believe that the money can be used for other matters, such as housing. The statue will not help relieve poverty, while Table Mountain is, in any event, a greater tourist attraction than Mandela.
