It is time for the DA to tell the people of the Western Cape where it is headed with the province. The Premier, Alan Winde, did not address the matter at all in his State of the Province Address (SOPA).

He also did not say a single word about the burning issue of expropriation without compensation. Despite the fact that it is a great cause for concern for commercial as well as emerging farmers.

One thing is for sure, the ANC cannot be trusted with executing any form of land expropriation.

Furthermore, the Premier also did not mention the state-owned trust land, Mamre, Haarlem, Slangrivier, Zoar, Ebenhaser, Kanshoek, Saron, Friemersheim or Genadendal, even though people have waited years for the land to be transferred to them.

It also raises another question: After the transfer has taken place, will the new owners get any assistance to help them get on their feet and will they have support to help them protect their land against illegal occupants?

When the Premier asked the members of the provincial government to submit proposals to improve the province, the FF Plus made various meaningful recommendations:

• Expanding the municipal police service.
• Expanding highway patrols.
• A greater focus on diabetes to better protect people affected by it against Covid-19.
• Delivering chronic medication to people’s homes.
• Federal autonomy for the Western Cape.

The FF Plus noted that the Premier responded to these points in his speech and welcomes it.
