The leaders of the left wing DA are deeply concerned about the possible plans that Patricia de Lille may have in mind with the establishment of a new party, or even the possibility of re activating her old party.

De Lille is apparently trying to establish the Independent Democrats, which could cause the DA to lose the Western Cape in the local elections in 2019.

The fact that the Independent Democrats are a party registered with the Independent Electoral Commission is a clear sign that De Lille’s actions will cost the DA a lot of votes and destroy their reputation in the Western Cape.

The participation of De Lille’s party in next year’s election is also considered a golden opportunity for the communist minded ANC to take over control because it will divide the DA’s traditional support.

Observers say that De Lille’s support from several DA councilors who resigned with her can greatly influence the region’s political future.
