During a joint operation between Cape Town Tactical Response Team (TRT) members and Vredenburg police, the location of three suspects linked to several incidents of trio crimes which occurred in Vredenburg were pointed out by an informant.

Their location was pointed out on Thursday morning in Cossovo Squatter Camp in Samora Machel. The three suspects were arrested and found to be in possession of three firearms of which the serial numbers were removed and 19 rounds of ammunition.

The trio are expected to appear in Athlone Magistrate Court once charged for the possession of illegal and prohibited firearms and illegal possession of ammunition.

Meanwhile ten suspects were also arrested on the same day for the possession of a hijacked vehicle and possession of alleged stolen property in Browns Farm and Crossroads. Three suspects were arrested on Thursday 18 July 2019, shortly after a Toyota Conquest was robbed from the owner of the vehicle, whilst he was assisting another motorist with a broken vehicle in Lansdowne Road.

Vigilant SAPS members who were on patrol spotted the vehicle with the three suspects in Sharon Street, Woodbaai. The three teenagers aged 16 were arrested and their accomplice was arrested later that night. All four suspects are due to appear in Athlone Magistrate Court for pointing of a firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle.

In a separate incident, six suspects were also arrested early Friday morning 19 July 2019, at about 00:30 for being in possession of suspected stolen property.

Police received information about the stolen property stored in a certain house in Unathi, Crossroads. On arrival at the address police searched the house and recovered three different TV flat screens, playstation and various other property. When questioned about the ownership of property no one could answer and all of them including a 22 year old woman were arrested and detained.

The suspects aged between 20 and 37 are expected to appear in Philippi Magistrate Court for the possession of stolen property.
