Vuyolwethu Xaso (32) appeared at Vredenburg Magistrate’s Court on an additional charge of vehicle theft in Rondebosch dating back to October 2017. The said vehicle was found abandoned at Klaas Baard Street, Vredenburg, after it was allegedly used as a getaway vehicle during a cash in transit (CIT) heist on 6 November 2017.

A Qiniseka Security Officer was accosted by two suspects, whilst collecting money from the local Meat Market store. The security officer was threatened with a firearm and the cashbox with an undisclosed amount of money was robbed before the suspects fled the scene using a getaway vehicle that was later found abandoned by local police.

Hawks investigation linked Xaso to the CIT and he was charged on 11 June 2018, and his bail application was successfully opposed.

The additional charge of theft of motor vehicle was laid against him on 11 April 2019, following further investigation that directly linked him to the theft of said vehicle.

The case against the suspect was postponed to 10 May for further investigation.
