Chinese couple in court for human trafficking

A Chinese man and a Chinese woman, who engaged in human trafficking for sexual purposes, appeared in court briefly on Wednesday.

Chinese nationals Jiang Wang, of Kenilworth, and his woman co-accused, Yiting Wong, both 32, appeared before magistrate Elsa van Zyl, in the Parow Regional Court.

In May last year, they were found guilty on two counts of human trafficking and one of keeping a brothel.

Sentencing proceedings were scheduled for August 5, when the defence team, advocate William King and attorney Ben Mathewson, are to lead evidence in mitigation of sentence.

The purpose of Wednesday’s proceedings was to secure the presence in court in August, of an interpreter able to speak Mandarin.
