Members attached to Operation Lockdown II were patrolling Bonga Drive, Site B, Khayelitsha on Friday 3 December 2021, when they noticed a suspicious vehicle speeding away.
A chase with the assistance from the community members ensued, where after the vehicle was pulled over and both the occupants and vehicle was searched.
The members found a 9mm firearm with serial number removed in the vehicle.
The suspects were unable to proof ownership of vehicle. Three suspects aged between 21 and 23 were arrested on charges of possession of prohibited firearm, possession of presumed stolen vehicle, reckless and negligent driving including, malicious damage to property.
The vehicle, a Toyota Corolla was seized and handed in as an exhibit. Once charged the suspects are due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court.
