Intelligence led operations at Asla Park, Kwanonqaba (Mossel Bay) led to the tracking down of two suspects wanted on serious and violent crimes perpetrated in the Cape Winelands region during 2019 and 2021.
Yesterday 19 October 2022, Da Gamaskop Crime Intelligence and Attaqua K9 members armed with a warrant of arrests descended on a residences at Rhythm City, an informal settlement at Asla Park, where they arrested two suspects on charges of business robbery.
Investigation reveals that the pair were positively linked to two separate business robberies reported at Paarl and Groot Drakenstein during the mentioned period. They fled the area and evaded arrest ever since.
The suspects aged, 31 and 35, remain in police custody. They will be transferred to the Cape Winelands region for their court appearances on the mentioned charges.
Meanwhile, also on Wednesday, 19 October 2022 the Western Cape Organised Crime Detectives in conjunction with Outeniqua K9 members, armed with a search warrant, operationalised intelligence and proceeded with a search of a premises at Wellington Street, George.
The search resulted in the discovery of 1,2 kilogram of cocaine with an estimated street value of R720 000 concealed in the garage. The person of interest is yet to be arrested. A police investigation is also underway.
Western Cape police management commended the members for their efforts.
These operations forms part of midweek operations launched to safeguard communities. It also aims to remove drugs which generate serious and violent crimes from the streets and ensure that those involved in criminal activities get their day in court.
