Cape Town serial rapist in court after 5 years on the run
No to rape.

A 24-year-old alleged serial rapist is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the man was arrested after he was tracked down in Stutterheim in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday. He had been on the run for five years.

Van Wyk said he allegedly terrorised girls between the ages of 10 and 18 years old in the Harare, Khayelitsha area, in Cape Town.

He allegedly raped and robbed five girls of their cellphones and money between September 2011 and August 2012.

“His modus operandi was to follow the victims early in the morning as they were walking to school and threaten them with a knife. He robbed them of their belongings and took the victim to a deserted area nearby and raped the victim.”

Van Wyk said the suspect was linked to the five rape cases through DNA.
