A 27-year-old female will face the court of law after she was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on 8 March 2022, in Ngcikiza Street, Acacia Park, Philippi East.

Members of Philippi East police were busy with stop and search operations when they searched the suspect’s handbag and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition in the bag.

In an unrelated matter, members of the Anti-Gang Unit pursued information this morning and drove to the identified address in Coronation Street, Heinz Park.

The members searched the premises and confiscated a shotgun with ammunition. A 42-year-old man has been arrested and detained on a charge of possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges.
