The vigilance of members of the Nyanga Cluster Crime Prevention Unit landed a 17-year-old suspect behind bars when he was arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition in White Hart Lane, The Leagues, in Samora Machel on the afternoon of 14 October 2021, at about 16:00.

The members were following up information about occupants in a vehicle in possession of a firearm. As the patrol vehicle approached, the occupants fled the scene in different directions. One suspect was apprehended and found in possession of a 9 mm Norinco pistol with ammunition.

In an unrelated matter Wynberg police arrested a 22-year-old suspect for being in possession of a 9mm pistol in Church Road, Wynberg on 14 October 202, after they received information about a suspicious person with a back pack. The members spotted the suspect that fitted the description, searched him and found the firearm in his bag.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Wynberg Magistrates courts on Monday, 18 October 2021 on charges of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
