Efforts to rid our streets of illegal firearm in the hands of criminals and to eradicate serious and violent crime, yielded positive results when members attached to Sea Point police arrested a 43-year-old man for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in High Level Road, Green Point on Wednesday evening.

The members were busy with patrols in the area when they saw a suspicious man walking in the road. When the man saw the police vehicle he started running. The members in pursuit chased him down and apprehended him. Upon searching him, the members found a 7.65 pistol with ammunition in his possession.

The suspect is due to make a court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court once he has been charged.

On Thursday evening members of Operation Restore conducted an intelligence driven operation in NY 81, Gugulethu and searched a premises. They found a small quantity mandrax tablets and 112 packets containing crystal meth hidden in a cupboard.

A 51-year-old man was arrested and detained.

Furthermore, members of Operation Restore deployed in Kraaifontein on Thursday evening followed up information about drugs in Botfontein Road, Scottsdene, Kraaifontein. While searching the premises the members found 71 half mandrax tablets.

A 41-year-old man was arrested and detained.

The suspects will appear in the Athlone and Blue Downs Magistrates courts once they have been charged.

In an unrelated incident, members of the Provincial Organized Crime Narcotics Unit visited a premises in Disa Road, Bettys Bay on Thursday when they detected a strong smell of dagga coming from inside of the house. The members entered the premises and upon searching the premises found an indoor dagga laboratory with 192 dagga plants, 4.3 kilogram dried dagga and equipment.

The estimated street value of the dagga is R574 400.

A 40-year-old man and a 30-year-old female were arrested on charges of Cultivating and dealing in dagga.

The suspects will appear in the Caledon magistrates court.
