The vigilance of flying Squad members proved successful on Friday, 12 May 2023, when they arrested a suspect in Elsies River on drug related charges.

The members pursued information of a truck that was hijacked earlier, and while searching the inner perimeters of Elsies River, they noticed suspicious premises and conducted an investigation.

This investigation uncovered drugs with an estimated street value of R1.2 million and led to the arrest of a 32-year-old suspect.

He is expected to make his court appearance in Goodwood Magistrate’s court for manufacturing drugs on Monday, 15 May 2023.

On the same day, members of Operation Restore were doing patrols at Monwabesi beach when they spotted a black VW Golf with two occupants engaged in an argument. As they approached the moving vehicle, the female passenger jumped out while the driver sped off.

While police members attended to the injured victim, their colleagues pursued the vehicle which ended when the driver made an attempt to flee further on foot. He was arrested and detained for assault to inflict grievous bodily harm.

It was established that he is the boyfriend of the victim. He is scheduled to make his court appearance in Khayelitsha.

Identified SAPS policing precincts in the Province are supported every week with additional deployments from Operation Restore and other integrated forces to quell the ongoing gang violence and reduce the number of unlicensed firearms in circulation.

The operations which are specifically focused on the gang hotspots in a bit to restore calm in the unsettled communities led to the discovery of 17 unlicensed firearms since Monday, 8 May 2023, and a significant increase in visible policing to reduce the crime rate.

These high density operations are in full swing and will continue in areas where crime is rife.
