The endeavours of our members to clamp down on the illegal possession of firearms are making headway as indicated by the two recent interventions by Lockdown II and the Anti-Gang Unit.
During the early hours of 17 October 2022, members of Lockdown II operationalised intelligence and conducted a search operation at a dwelling in Island informal settlement in Khayelitsha which led to the discovery of three firearms, a rifle and ammunition.
This seizure resulted in the arrest of two suspects, aged 33 and 34, on charges of possession of prohibited and unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Once they have been charged, they are expected to make their court appearances in Khayelitsha.
Meanwhile members of the Anti-Gang Unit were equally successful when they followed up on information in Forest Village and confiscated two unlicensed 9mm firearms and ammunition at a house in Essenwood Drive, and arrested a 24-year-old female suspect.
The members proceeded to a residence in Heckler Street in the same area where they arrested a 21-year-old man for the possession of ammunition without a license.
While in the Blue Downs area, they also conducted a search for a suspect who is wanted for attempted murder in Kleinvlei perpetrated earlier this month which led to the arrest of a 33-year-old suspect.
The suspects who all have links to local gang in the area will make their court appearances in Blue Downs once they have been charged.
