Jakes Gerwel drive and the R300 had to be closed on Wednesday evening, 2 May 2018, after protest action became violent.
An ATM has been burned while a vehicle and a fruit stall were damaged. Several vehicles have been stoned and traffic lights are damaged.
Services are demanded by squatters but the huts have been erected on a private plot of land and the city council refuses to provide services there.
FF Plus’s Cape Leader, Dr. Corné Mulder, meanwhile, has laid the blame and the cause of the violence at the door of the of the ANC, which imports people from the Eastern Cape into an attempt to take over the area.
He also included the DA in the situation because they do nothing to solve the problem.
