Efforts to eradicate crime in the Cape Flats proved to be fruitful as the Provincial Extortion Task Team confiscated a firearm and a consignment of drugs in Heinz Park, Philippi.

At approximately 01:30, members responded to a tip off and raided an address in the area where a gang group allegedly stores their firearms and drugs.

They searched the premises and confiscated firearm with two rounds of ammunition and mandrax tablets.

Two suspects aged 19 and 37 were arrested on the spot. Once charged, they will make their court appearance in Wynberg.

Meanwhile members of Bishop Lavis police reacted on a tipoff and searched a residence in Bonteheuwel at around 11:00.

This search resulted in the discovery of a hand grenade buried in the yard and the arrest of a 55-year-old man. The circumstances surrounding the discovery are still under investigation.

Once charged, the suspect is expected to make his court appearance in Bishop Lavis.
