Our efforts to ensure that we combat and investigate various crime generators in the province yielded good results on 20 February 2020, in Pinelands Industrial Area.

The vigilant members of Flying Squad acted on information after a business robbery occurred at the mentioned address. Upon conducting an investigation, the vehicle that was used during the robbery was spotted in the area, and a high speed chase ensued with exchange of fire between the suspects and the members.

The suspects jumped out of a moving vehicle and ran in different directions to evade arrest. Two suspects were subsequently arrested, one was fatally wounded while the other one is under police guard in hospital.

A search was conducted in the vehicle and it led to the seizure of a 9mm Norinco Star firearm with several rounds of ammunition, including the items that were stolen during the robbery. The vehicle was reported hijacked in Milnerton last month.

Four suspects aged between 31 and 50 were arrested and are expected to make a court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 February 2020, on charges of attempted murder, robbery, possession of a prohibited firearm and presumed stolen property.

The police are hot on the heels of the fifth suspect who fled.
