The main focus of police members to significantly reduce the number of firearms in the wrong hands, resulted in arrests in the Western Cape.

On the morning of 1 December 2021, at approximately 08:10, members of Muizenberg SAPS, were busy with crime prevention patrols in the Hillview area. While patrolling in St Boniface Street, the members noticed a suspicious male standing at a container. On noticing the police, the suspect immediately turned and tried to evade the members.

The members gave chase and apprehended the suspect between the shacks adjacent to St Boniface Street. He was searched and found to be in possession of a 9mm Star pistol with the serial number removed, and 15 rounds of ammunition.

A 14-year-old suspect, a resident of Hillview, was arrested and detained at Muizenberg on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and unlicensed ammunition.
