The members of Bishop Lavis Crime Prevention Unit are upholding their commitment to arrest individuals who are in possession of illegal firearms.
SAPS members were conducting routine patrols in the Bishop Lavis area on Friday evening, 3 January 2020, at about 19:00 when one of the members noticed a male who was known in the area. As the members approached, the male suddenly changed his direction.
The members jumped out of the vehicle and gave chase. When they caught up with the suspect, he was searched and found in possession of a 9mm Silver Taurus with one magazine filled with 15 rounds of ammunition. The 35 year old male was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, and once formally charged he will appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates’ Court.
In an unrelated matter on Friday, 3 January 2020 at 23:00 Kensington SAPS members acted upon information and conducted a search at an address in Matroos Square, Kensington and found a 9mm Star one magazine, six 9mm rounds and two 45 calibre rounds.
Two suspects, a 68 year old male and a 69 year old female were arrested on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of a prohibited firearm.
Both suspects are due to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court once charged.
The confiscated firearms in both cases will be sent for forensic examination to determine if they were used during previous reported firearms related offences.
