What was this farmer thinking? Did he believe that communism can work ? A prime grape farm that once produced 30 000- 40 000 boxes of export grapes now lies in total ruins after the owner, Pieter Naude of the Denau Farm in De Doorns, gave the prime grape farm Alpha away to 250 of his workers in 2010.
Alpha was then registered as a worker’s trust. Mr Naude also trained 2 managers for the farm. For the first 5 years Mr Naude’s business also did Alpha farm’s books. The Western Cape provincial government carried the entire running costs of Alpha farm for the first 2 years . That is R 2 million that they got for free.
The managers of the workers trust – which of course comes down to a communist collective farm – started to pay out too much dividends to themselves because they wanted cash as soon as possible.
Today the workers trust owes Absa bank R 800 000 and Alpha will be sold on the internet to pay Absa. The farm is today totally stripped and ruined. The orchards were not sprayed this year and that will lead to permanent damage to the orchards. That is now the orchards that were not carried away by residents of a squatter camp as firewood. The squatter camp has popped up right next to Alpha farm.
The squatters have also removed the fence that was once around Alpha farm.
Naude now wants to buy back Alpha farm to prevent the squatters invading the farm and destroy what is left.
Mr Naude, you believed liberal lies that prosperity will bloom if you give away your property for free. Next time keep in mind that communism doesn’t work. Die Rooi Gevaar is real.
If something is not going to belong to someone in particular – but to a group – it is going to belong to nobody. How many more once thriving farms will be totally destroyed by BEE before people will realise it doesn’t work?
Also keep in mind that Africa has other values than us whites. They do things totally different than we do. We as white people who originated in Europe believe in hard work to slowly build up what we have.
#TheAfricanWay on the other hand is just consumption and having a good time whilst there is some cash. If we give our property away for which we worked hard, before long #TheAfricanWay would have destroyed what we worked hard and long to achieve. What the bushes don’t take back will be taken by squatter camps.
