On 15 November 2018 at 15:30, vigilant members of the Provincial Task team arrested two males aged 27 and 34 years old for hijacking and possession of stolen property. This arrest was made after an all points broadcast was made on a vehicle that was hijacked in the Gugulethu policing precinct.

At 14:45 a woman parked her car at a shopping mall in Gugulethu. As she proceeded to lock the vehicle she was approached by three males who threatened her at gunpoint and took her car. The three males drove off in the vehicle while the female took a taxi to the police station and reported the incident.

The quick response of SAPS members in circulating the vehicle as stolen, alerted operational SAPS Members in the immediate area of the description of the hijacked vehicle.

The Provincial Crime Prevention reaction task team deployed in the area doing high density patrols, spotted the vehicle with two males in it at 15:30. The vehicle was cornered and pulled over in League street Bishop Lavis. All the woman’s personal belongings was also recovered.

The third male is yet to be arrested. A gas gun that was found in the vehicle was confiscated along with knife which was used in the hijacking.

The males was arrested on charges of hijacking and possession of stolen property. They will be appearing in court soon.
