On 23 August 2018 at about 03:30 members attached to Operation Thunder were following up on information pertaining to an illegal firearm in Lingelethu West.

The members obtained a search warrant and executed it at the premises at FF 142 Phangela Crescent, Griffiths Mxenge, Lingelethu West. Inside the house they found the 9mm pistol with ten live rounds of ammunition in the magazine. The serial number of the firearm was filed off.

During the search the members also checked a white Polo Vivo GTI with registration number CH06CPGP. This vehicle was found to have been hijacked in Sunnyside in this month.

The 31 year old man was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and a hijacked vehicle.

The suspect is being held in custody until his first appearance on Monday 23 August 2018 at the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court.
