Trio Crimes addressed by Cape Town Central Police members, who arrested two armed robbers posing as water meter reader officials.

This afternoon at about 13:00 Cape Town Central Crime Prevention members arrested two suspects aged 33 and 35 in connection with a house robbery that occurred in Meadow Lane, Hout Bay earlier today, 31 May 2018. Members of the Hout Bay neighbourhood watch alerted several WhatsApp groups to be on the lookout for a Silver Metallic Grey Audi A4 motor vehicle, with registration number CA 919 592, with five unknown men inside, armed with a firearm.

It is alleged that the robbers were clothed in green reflector jackets and took cell phones, other electronic devices and an undisclosed amount of cash from the complainants.

The Cape Town Central Crime Prevention Unit responded to the alert and the vehicle fitting the description, a Silver Grey Audi A4 was spotted in Hartfield Road, Upper Orange Street. When the suspects noticed the police they stopped the vehicle and fled on foot, running towards Upper Wandel, Vredehoek.

The members gave chase and apprehended two of the suspects who were hiding between the cars. Police arrested them and found an unlicensed 9 mm pistol, of which the serial number had been removed, and seven live rounds of ammunition in possession of the suspects. The firearm was confiscated and handed in at Cape Town Central Police station for further police investigation.

Members also confiscated the Silver Grey Audi A4 motor vehicle and later discovered that the car had been stolen in Belhar earlier this month.

Upon further investigation it was also discovered that the number plate had been cloned. The suspects will remain in custody at Cape Town Central Police station until their first court appearance, when police will oppose their bail application.
