Nyanga SAPS Management would like to urge people who advertise on social media to exercise causing when visiting Philippi (Browns Farm) to conclude the deal.

On the morning of 3 March 2021, at about 10:30 five suspects were arrested shortly after they robbed a couple who had also advertised that they were selling a tablet on social media.

The couple was robbed while they came to deliver the item at Mzamomhle Street in Browns Farm. When the complainants arrived at the address a suspect came to check the item and thereafter indicated he was going to fetch the money. When he came back to the vehicle four other suspects joined him and robbed the IPad, cellular telephones, hand bag with valuables inside.

The suspects, aged between 15 and 23 were arrested shortly after the robbery and all items besides the wallet were found in possession of the suspects. They are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on armed robbery charges and possession of stolen property once charged.

In a separate incident a 20-year-old suspect is due to appear in the same court on a charge of murder. He had been on the run after he allegedly shot and fatally wounded another man in Amsterdam Road in Browns Farm.

The deceased was coming from buying liquor when the suspects came behind and fired several shots fatally wounding him. Police was searching for the suspect and he was apprehended on Tuesday, 2 March 2021 in the Browns Farm area.
