Police in the province continue with operations to ensure a safer festive season. On 14 December 2018, police from the Anti Gang Unit (AGU) and members from other units in the province observed a suspicious vehicle in the Athlone area.
The vehicle was stopped and searched, which led to the discovery of two firearms, a .38 Special revolver and a 6.35 Browning Beretta pistol with a total of 17 rounds of ammunition.
Two male suspects aged 25 and 37 were arrested and are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 18 December 2018.
The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the members for removing illegal firearms from the community as they threatened the safety of the residents.
