Anti gang unit recover unlicensed firearms and drugs, Cape Town

If you are in possession of an unlicensed or prohibited firearm in this province, regard yourself as sought by the Anti Gang Unit (AGU). During the early hours of 27 April 2019, AGU members reacted on a tip off at a residence in Uitsig, Ravensmead and conducted a search operation at the address.

The information was accurate and a 9mm pistol without a serial number and four rounds of ammunition were found. In addition to the firearm, the members also came across 490 mandrax tablets and R14 870-00 cash, believed to be the proceeds of drug trafficking.

The suspect, a 23 year old man with links to a local gang in the area was arrested and detained on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and dealing in drugs. He is expected to make a court appearance on Monday, 29 April 2019 to face the charges against him.

Last night a 32-year-old suspect was apprehended by police in Borchards Quarry close to Airport Industrial for being in possession of a 9mm firearm without a serial number and 53 ecstasy tablets. The suspect was spotted by vigilant Flying Squad members driving without his lights which prompted a search of his vehicle.

He is also expected to make his court appearance on Monday 29 April 2019, to face charges of possession of a prohibit firearm and ammunition and the possession of drugs.
