In a concerted effort targeting unlicensed firearms and ammunition, members of the Anti Gang Unit (AGU) executed an intelligence driven operation in Ravensmead by following up on information they have received about possible firearms used in recent shootings in Uitsig, Ravensmead.

Members descended to a house in Wakefield Street, Connaught Estate, Ravensmead where upon searching the premises they seized a 9mm pistol without a serial number filed off, 13 rounds of ammunition and a magazine. They arrested a female suspect aged 31 for the possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Further information was followed up and the members arrived at Benrose Court, Connaught Estate and seized three 9mm magazines and 25 rounds of ammunition. In this incident they arrested a 39 year old male suspect for illegal possession of ammunition.

Both suspects will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once charged. They are facing charges of illegal possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition and possession of ammunition respectively.

The efforts of the Anti Gang Unit are commended by the provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula as they continue to make inroads in dealing with gang violence and its manifestations.
