Anti corruption unit seek suspects after ‘police’ rob store, CT

The Western Cape Anti Corruption Unit is requesting the assistance of the public to identify three suspects who are sought on a charge of robbery. On 26 January 2019 at around 15:15, six suspects approached a cellular store in Strand Street, Cape Town, identified them as police officers and claimed to be acting on a search warrant for drugs and firearms.

Three of the suspects were dressed in civilian clothes, two in uniform and one in civilian clothes with a police issue bullet proof vest. The suspects gained access to the back of the store and conducted a search. During their exit, one of the suspects dropped a back containing an amount of R1620-00 which was left behind.

The suspects fled the scene in two vehicles with a cellular telephone taken from the store.

Our investigations have resulted in the arrest of three of the suspects, who are due back in court on 8 April 2019.
