ANC is third force behind Hermanus unrest: DA obtains photo evidence

Today [28 March 2018] I will submit a motion to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament to refer ANC MPP Cameron Dugmore to the Ethics Committee for inciting violence in Hermanus.

This comes after the Democratic Alliance Western Cape yesterday obtained photographic evidence taken by the DA’s Constituency Head for the Overstrand Municipality, Masizole Mnqasela clearly showing ANC MPP Cameron Dugmore in a text conversation with ANC Western Cape Secretary Faiez Jacobs wherein he says “This is a campaign we must lead and drive in terms of our policies. We must also look at well located private land and consider” this proves that the ANC is the third force behind the unrest in Zwelihle, Hermanus.

The evidence clearly shows that the land grabs and subsequent unrest in the area is part of the ANC’s political agenda to instigate violence and urge residents to illegally occupy land.

The DA has also established that people from neighbouring areas, no doubt ANC members, were bussed into Hermanus to spread chaos, disrupt the community and vandalise private property.

The evidence obtained by the DA is in stark contrast to President Ramaphosa’s recent statement that the ANC government will handle the matter of land as they have always handled difficult matters, “by dialogue, discussion and engagement”.

The DA is delighted that we have managed to calm the situation down, and hopefully averted it for good, we need to be unambiguous and firm. We will not accept hooliganism and violence to triumph over the rights and safety of our communities.

The DA has long been aware of the ANC’s motives to destabilise the province in an attempt to make the province ungovernable for their own political gain. We know that they are doing everythingthey can to revive their organisation in the province, but we will not allow them to deter our focus from delivering services.

It is clear that what the ANC leadership says and what the ANC actually do is very different. The DA calls on the ANC to unambiguously state their position and approach to land reform in South African.

The recent events in Hermanus coupled by the damming evidence obtained by the DA proves once again that the DA is the only party that can bring about meaningful land reform, land ownership and constructive land redistribution and restitution.
