Focussed operations led by the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit proved to be successful when they arrested two suspects in isolated incidents on Friday, 17 March 2023 on various charges.

The police members conducted a vehicle checkpoint on Baden Powel Drive at around 16:00. They noticed a vehicle that was reported hijacked and approached the driver who then sped off.

The members gave chase which resulted in a high speed pursuit. They managed to bring the vehicle to a halt near to Monwabisi beach and searched the vehicle and the occupant and confiscated two firearms and ammunition.

They arrested and detained the 23-year-old male on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and the possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

Meanwhile the police members deployed in Eastridge attended a briefing where they were tasked to tactically enter a nearby residence. The patrol vehicles proceeded to Malva Street, and entered the dwelling. The occupants were caught off guard and attempted to flee the scene however they were swiftly brought under control.

The members searched the entire premises and found a firearm with ammunition, Methamphetamine and cash. They arrested and detained a 22-year-old man on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of drugs.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court on the mentioned charges.
