On the same day their colleagues were ambushed and injured in Samora Machel, the Anti Gang Unit ‘A shift’ descended on two premises in Happy Valley in Mfuleni and seized firearms, an assortment of ammunition and made two arrests.

In one house they arrested a 35 year old suspect and seized the following:

One Norinco star firearm (with no serial number)
Five cartridges
One 9mm Bietro Barrett’s
One magazine
Eight cartridges
One R5 Rifle
Two Rifle magazines
27 X R5 Rounds
165 X 9mm rounds
One 7.65 rounds
Two ammunition holders

In the second premises in the Happy Valley area they arrested a 64 year old suspect and made the seizures listed below:

One R5 Rifle
Four Rifle magazines
43 X R5 rounds
Two sets of handcuffs

The suspects will be charged with possession of prohibited firearm, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. They are set to appear in court soon.

Western Cape SAPS management had commended the efforts of the team. Despite the setback suffered by their fellow colleagues early yesterday when they got ambushed and injured, the unit remains resolute in rooting out serious violent crimes in Cape Town.
