The Bellville based Serious Corruption Investigation team have this morning, 08 September 2023 arrested a 35-year-old Phuti Given Mothemane who is an advocate for acts of corruption.

It is alleged that on the 23 September 2022, Advocate Mothemane approached a member of National Prosecuting Authority and offered R50 000.00 (fifty thousand rand) to file representations in favour of his client or make the State’s case to disappear.

A warrant of arrest was issued and was executed by the Serious Corruption Investigation team hence the arrest.

The accused have made the first appearance in the Bellville Regional Court on 08 September 2023. He is out on R5000.00 bail and the next court date is set for 09 October 2023 for the Regional Court.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, Major General Makgato has welcomed the arrest by the team and further reiterated that no one is above the law and DPCI will continue to root out any criminal elements in our society.
